The Friends of the Grove--A Heart full of Generosity and Love in Newton, Surrey B.C.
When it comes to creating a culture of caring and giving in Surrey, the Friends of the Grove in Newton, Surrey, proactively engages everyone in maintaining a spirit of generosity, hope and love. The Friends of the Grove is a unique group of Newton neighbors that have taken root in the beautiful cluster of cedars beside the Newton Recreation Center known as the Grove. They use lively music, decorative artwork and playfulness to bring fun, peace and harmony to the local Newton neighborhood. Some of their projects include: Cedar Bark Poets, Piano in the Grove, Newton Free Food Garden, A Room to Draw, and We are Newton Anthology.
Back in February 2014, Jason Roberts, introduced the concept of "placemaking," a grassroots, community-led process that brings life, restoration, and vibrancy to an area. Shortly after his visit, the Friends of the Grove group came into being and began using The Grove in creative and inclusive ways. Initially, the media coverage by Global TV and CTY focused on the negative history of the area. However, with the passage of time, the Friends of the Grove continue to honor the difficult parts of the The Grove's history, but now focus on actively bringing about positive changes in the neighborhood. In October 2014, the Friends of the Grove received a Beautiful City Award, by the City of Surrey which recognizes outstanding contributions in community beautification landscape redevelopment efforts. They continue to work closely with the City of Surrey Beautification Department to keep our local community safe and instill in all of us a sense of belonging and togetherness. As our Foundation offers and seeks opportunities to develop leadership skills to youth attending our programs, our collaboration with the Friends of the Grove through the "We are Newton Anthology" project showcases families, writers, nonprofit groups and organizations working together for the greater good of our community.
Here at the Amazing Tutors Children's Foundation and The Friends of the Grove, we believe in a spiritual, sacred worth of all people. We continually develop resources and intelligent programs that substantially benefit our community. We recognize the importance of serving people in caring ways and we sincerely desire to provide opportunities to create a caring, giving and inclusive community. Our Amazing Tutors Children's Foundation encourages everyone to honor the strength of diversity within their communities by bringing together an array of diverse perspectives in ways that foster collaboration, community, reflection and action. Amazing Tutors Children's Foundation commits to working together with communities in our region to support the education and health promotion efforts through shared leadership and action. Together, we can make this process collaborative, enhancing, practical, proactive, responsible and welcoming.
We offer many thanks to the Friends of the Grove team and Katheren Szabo for their long-standing dedication, excellence and generosity to our community. We feel extremely blessed to have been given the opportunity by the Friends of the Grove to engage with the community in such an important way, and to have youth in the community volunteering. At Amazing Tutors Children's Foundation, we believe in providing our students with positive and community based volunteer activities. Through these actions, we provide an essential part of their development growing into responsible and capable citizens.
We look forward to our partnership for building the future. Together we create a world of caring and consideration in our community. Please click on the photo and video album.

Amazing Tutors Children's Foundation's Youth Leadership Development Program
Here at Amazing Tutors Children's Foundation, we are very gratified for the depth and breadth of community support. At Amazing Tutors Children's Foundation, our Youth Leadership Development Program facilitates personal growth and leadership development in youths. The goal is to empower our youth to learn valuable leadership and life skills through a variety of diverse, spiritual experiences, peer engagement and active community involvement. Students can earn school service credits. We focus on charitable works, community outreach and service activities, education, fundraising and organized sports. The importance of leadership through education, teamwork, along with building and instilling confidence, cooperation, discipline, hope, and self-esteem will be taught through the leadership program.
Our Youth Leadership Development Program challenges youths to take on a leadership role both in life and in their caring community. We integrate participants into our organization's decision making body and volunteer programs. Additionally, we strive to offer youth the skills and competitive edge required for personal, relational and successful community growth. Through our Youth Leadership Development Program, our students and participants use hands-on learning to develop youth-to-adult and peer-to-peer relationships based on compassion, engagement and social awareness. We offer skills training workshops in the following areas: communication, community, co-operation, environmental sustainability, global awareness, leadership, and self-awareness.
